Optimising For
Your Business, Named In AI Answers
Your customers don’t only use Google any more. A lot of them now ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or Perplexity, and they act on whatever comes back. Often without clicking anything at all.
That answer gets built from sources the assistant can reach, understand and trust. If your site isn’t one of them, you’re not in the running, no matter how well you rank. The building blocks are familiar if you’ve done any SEO before: pages that can be crawled, content that says clearly what you do, and a reputation that holds up elsewhere on the web. What’s changed is how those signals get used.
I’ll show you where your business stands in AI answers today, why your competitors are getting picked instead, and what to fix so the next answer includes you. Same approach I’ve taken to search for almost a decade, pointed at a newer front door.
AI SEO
Services
-
GEO Consultancy
Generative Engine Optimisation. Work that gets your pages cited in the answers ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity write, from page structure through to the reputation signals these models lean on.
-
AIO Consultancy
AI Overviews Optimisation. Getting your business into Google’s generated answer, the block now sitting above results your customers used to scroll through.
-
AEO Consultancy
Answer Engine Optimisation. Shaping your content so it can be lifted straight out as the answer, whether that’s a featured snippet, a voice result or an assistant reply.
-
Technical Foundations
An assistant can only quote what it can fetch and read. Rendering, crawl access for AI bots, clean markup and quick pages decide whether you’re even a candidate.
-
Entity And Local Signals
AI answers rely heavily on consistent business information. If your name, services and locations say the same thing everywhere, a model can recommend you with confidence.
-
Digital PR And Citations
Models look for corroboration. Getting mentioned, reviewed and quoted on sources they already trust is one of the few dependable ways into the answer itself.
Why This Matters Now
Every big search interface answers before it lists. Google has AI Overviews, Bing has Copilot, and plenty of research now starts inside an assistant rather than a search box.
That changes what visibility is worth. Ranking fifth used to earn you a click. Being left out of a generated answer earns you nothing, because your customer has already been handed a shortlist and you weren’t on it.
The useful part is that these systems are actively looking for sources they can trust and credit. That’s a solvable problem, and right now it rewards whoever gets on with it first.
How I Work On It
We start by measuring rather than guessing. I take the questions your customers actually ask, run them across the main assistants, and record who gets cited and what those sources have in common.
After that the work is fairly unglamorous. Fixing whatever blocks AI crawlers, restructuring pages so answers can be pulled out cleanly, tightening up your schema and entity signals, then earning the kind of third party mentions models treat as evidence.
Then we track it properly. Share of answers, citations won, and the enquiries that come from it, reported alongside your SEO and PPC numbers rather than off on their own.
Frequently
Asked Questions
What is AI SEO?
It’s the work of getting your business into answers generated by AI, whether that’s Google’s AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Perplexity. Instead of competing for a spot in a list of ten links, you’re competing to be one of the sources the answer is built from and credited to.
Is it different from normal SEO?
It shares most of the same foundations and adds a layer on top. Crawlability, structure, page speed and genuine authority still decide whether you’re eligible at all. What’s new is how answers get assembled. Models favour content they can pull out cleanly, businesses they can identify confidently, and claims they can verify somewhere else. In practice AI SEO sits on top of SEO rather than replacing it.
What do GEO, AEO and AIO mean?
Three labels for closely related work. GEO, or generative engine optimisation, targets the answers assistants write. AEO, answer engine optimisation, targets direct answers like featured snippets and voice results. AIO usually means optimising for Google’s AI Overviews specifically. The tactics overlap a lot and the naming is still settling down.
Can you actually measure any of this?
Yes, though not as tidily as rankings. We test a fixed set of prompts across the assistants on a schedule and record whether you show up, how you’re described, and who appears next to you. That gives you a trend you can act on. Alongside it we watch referral traffic from AI sources and, more importantly, the enquiries that follow.
How long does it take?
Technical and structural fixes can change whether you’re eligible within a few weeks. Getting cited consistently takes longer, because it depends on reputation signals that build over months. If your SEO is already in decent shape you’ll see movement sooner, since most of the early work is removing reasons a model has to skip you.
Do you work with businesses outside Bedford?
Yes. I’m based in Bedford and work with businesses across the UK and further afield. This kind of work happens remotely anyway, though I’m always happy to meet if you’re nearby in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire or Cambridgeshire.
